Toyota Fortuner Twice As Popular As Ford Endeavour

Indian audience loves the set of wheels that can go off the road without much of a hassle and offer a lot of road-presence. For the very reason, Toyota Fortuner enjoys a huge fan following in India. Going through the sales figures of Fortuner for FY’19 and FY’20 reveals that Toyota sold 21,141 units of the Fortuner in fiscal 2019 and 12,963 units in fiscal 2020. In comparison to the Fortuner, its chief rival – Ford Endeavour could only register a sales of 5,829 units in FY’19 and 6,470 unit in FY’20.

The difference between the sales numbers of the two SUVs shows the cult status that Fortuner enjoys in our country. On a different tangent, however, Ford Endeavour leads the chart by registering an 11 per cent increase in sales in FY’20. Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, experienced a whopping 39 per cent dip in sales in fiscal 2020. But at the end of the day, it is the Fortuner that was sold in higher numbers than the competition. Though, Endeavour offers a lot more features than the Fortuner it fails to score big figures on the sales chart.

The Fortuner is sold with 2 engine options in the country – 2.7L petrol and 2.8L diesel. The petrol motor whips out 164 BHP of peak power and 245 Nm of peak torque. It can be had mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. The bigger diesel engine produces a maximum output of 174 BHP and 450 Nm when coupled to the 6-speed AT. With the 6-speed MT, the torque output drops down to 420 Nm. The Fortuner is available with optional 4WD drivetrain as well but with the diesel engine only.

Ford Endeavour offers a longer feature list in comparison to the Toyota Fortuner.

The Endeavour, however, comes with just one engine option. There’s 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine on offer. This small force-fed unit belts out a rated output of 170 PS and 420 Nm. It comes mated to a 10-speed automatic as standard, while the 4WD layout is available as an option.
