Before going on sale in January next year, Kia Carnival is now available for booking at select dealerships of Kia.

Following the tremendous success of the Kia Seltos, Kia has announced the launch time for its second car in India. The Kia Carnival is scheduled to launch in January 2020. It is confirmed that Kia will bring this MPV to the 2020 Auto Expo. Ahead of the official launch, the booking for the Toyota-Innova-rivalling MPV has begun in some select dealerships across India.

Kia Carnival will be the second Kia car to go on sale in India

Even though Kia Motors is positioning the Carnival to compete in the segment of MPVs, this car looks more like a minivan due to its power sliding doors. This function also bestows the car with easy ingress and egress. It also comes as a bonus point if you take tight parking slots into consideration. On the front end, the design is familiar and in line with other Kia models. The India-spec Carnival sports the signature tiger-nose grille and a set of projector headlights. At the rear end, it features a modest design with the only highlight of a thin chrome strip on the boot lid.

Inside the Carnival, Kia will offer the Kia UVO connectivity system which has been used on the Kia Seltos. Similarly, the touchscreen infotainment system of the Kia Seltos comes with both Apple Carplay and Android Auto support. Apart from the connectivity system, Kia Carnival will also feature other highlight features like the three-zone climate control, powered front seats, power tailgate, and ventilated/heated power front seats.

Kia Carnival will take on the Toyota Innova

Under the hood, the Kia Carnival sports a 2.2-litre diesel engine with a maximum power of 197PS and a peak torque of 440Nm. This engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. Another engine option available on the international market is a 3.3-litre V6 petrol motor that generates 276PS and 336Nm. However, it is unlikely that Kia will bring this engine to India. The expected price can start from around Rs. 27 lakh to Rs. 36 lakh, which means that it will be positioned at a more premium price range than its main rival at the moment, Toyota Innova Crysta.
