The all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser is likely to launch by the upcoming festive season. The Maruti Vitara Brezza based Toyota SUV will compete with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.
A few months back, India’s biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki approved to supply Vitara Brezzza, its highy successful sub-compact SUV, to Toyota Kirloskar Motor. In the coming months, Toyota plans to introduce the rebadged version of Maruti Vitara Brezza in the Indian market. Both the companies released a joint press release regarding their future plans of car sharing, using the same platform and even sharing production facilities. Last year, Toyota introduced the first rebadged version of a Maruti Suzuki car in India in the form of the Toyota Glanza.
The all-new Toyota's sub-4-meter SUV is expected to be named as 'Urban Crusier'. Our exclusive rendering visualizes the new model with Corolla Cross-inspired front-end.
The Toyota Glanza is based on the Maruti Baleno and has been selling in decent numbers ever since it went on sale. It has also helped the automaker to register healthy sales numbers as the hatchback has become the third most sold premium hatchback in its segment, behind Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Right now, Toyota Glanza is the most affordable car offered by Toyota in the Indian market. Earlier, Etios twins were the entry-level models in Toyota’s stable, but they got discontinued due to the new stringent BS6 emission norms. Toyota's upcoming Maruti Vitara Brezza-based SUV is likely to be named as ‘Urban Cruiser’, and it could help the automaker to increase its overall sales.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza was first introduced in our market back in 2016, and it has set sales records in its segment. The sub-4-meter SUV segment in India is hotly contested, and it’ll soon see the arrival of Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet and Renault Kiger. The upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser will look a bit different from Maruti Vitara Brezza, but in terms of features, both the SUVs will share a lot of commonalities. In fact, our in-house renderin specalist has visualized the upcoming model with Corolla Cross-inspired nose.
The all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser is expected to go on sale in our market by the upcoming festive season (October), and it’ll derive power from the same K15B, 1.5-litre four-pot Smart Hybrid gasoline mill, which propels the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The petrol powertrain puts out 104.7 PS of peak power and 138 Nm of twisting force. Transmission duties will be done by a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
