The new Toyota Urban Cruiser will launch in August this year. Once launched, it’ll compete with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is all set to launch its second badged-engineered car based on a Maruti Suzuki vehicle. Similar to the Glanza, which is the re-badged model of Maruti Baleno with a new grille and Toyota badging, soon we’ll get to see a rebadged Maruti Brezza as the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Earlier, the compact SUV was scheduled to hit the Indian shores during the summer season, but the launch got delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. Now, Toyota has rescheduled the launch of Urban Cruiser in August 2020. Once launched, it’ll lock horns with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, and Ford EcoSport. The new Toyota SUV will be based on the Brezza facelift, which was first showcased early this year at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Toyota Urban Cruiser will be the rebadged version of the Maruti Brezza

Like Toyota Glanza, the new SUV won’t employ any major styling updates and we expect it to look almost identical to the Maruti's compact SUV. Moreover, the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser will be sold in the top-of-the-line variants- ZXI and ZXI (O) trims. Like the new 2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Urban Cruiser will be sold in petrol manual and automatic trims. Mechanically, the new Maruti Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15B gasoline engine, which puts out 103 bhp of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This motor is likely to come equipped with SHVS mild-hybrid tech on the Urban Cruiser.
