Toyota Urban Crusier (Repurposed Maruti Brezza) To Launch Today

Toyota Urban Cruiser is based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza but looks slightly different due to the Fortuner-like grille. It will take on the newly launched Kia Sonet among others

The local subsidiary of renowned Japanese automaker, Toyota is all set to launch its all-new sub-4-meter SUV today. Dubbed Urban Cruiser, the new model was revealed recently and the carmaker has already initiated accepting bookings of the SUV. Seliveries are likely to commence as soon as the price is out. Toyota Urban Cruiser is the rebadged version of the refreshed Maruti Vitara Brezza. Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300. This will be the second product to be launched in our country under this joint venture.

The first rebadged Maruti car launched in India by Toyota was Glanza. Toyota Glanza is doing quite well in terms of overall sales and is continuously registering third-best sales number in its segment every month. With Urban Cruiser, Toyota is also planning to sell some decent numbers of the sub-4-meter-SUV. Toyota Urban Cruiser looks almost similar to that of the Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Upfront, it gets a new grille and a redesigned front bumper. The vertical chrome slats on the front grille will surely remind you of the Toyota Fortuner in some angles. Mechanically, it’ll derive power from the K15B, 1.5-litre petrol engine, which develops 104.7 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. The engine will come paired with a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Inside, it’ll come loaded with features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control and much more. The SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Moreover, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurana has now become the official brand ambassador of the upcoming Toyota SUV. With this SUV, the automaker has plans to target the young buyers of the country. Ayushmann Khurana will campaign the SUV via different electronic and print communicators. For this year, this is the overall strategy of the automaker to market their brand new car.
