Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched the Vellfire in India as the flagship product of the brand. Currently the only competition Vellfire has is the Mercedes V-Class.
We earlier reported of a teaser image released by Toyota of its upcoming Vellfire luxury MPV. However, the luxury MPV is now launched at a price tag of Rs. 79.5 lakh to become the most premium offering from the Japanese carmaker, this side of the Lexus range. The flagship offering of the Toyota Kirloskar Motors at price tag, which is almost 5 times of what the base-variant of Innova Crysta retails for. Interestingly, Toyota has already sold 180 units of the Vellfire in India. With a maximum capacity of only 60 units a month, the car is sold out for the next 3 months.
Toyota Vellfire will be a direct rival to Mercedes-Benz's V-Class.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors is showcasing the Vellfire with a hashtag for social media that reads ‘Sustainable Luxury’. The hashtag in confluence to car’s hybrid powertrain, which is far more efficient than the competition and emits out lesser constituents of pollutants. Powering the Vellfire is a series-hybrid setup incorporating a 2.5L petrol mill and 2 electric motors to produce a combined power output of around 200 BHP. Talking of the individual power figures, the engine has a rated power output of 1150BHP and 198 Nm, while the front and the rear motor produces 141 BHP and 67 BHP, respectively. The transmission duties are performed by a close-step CVT. This is a similar setup as seen on the Lexus NX 300H, and aids the Vellfire with a fuel efficiency of 16.53 kmpl.
Toyota ha launched the car in its range-topping ‘Executive Lounge’ trim, which comes loaded with features to the brim, such as electric sliding rear doors, three-zone automatic climate control, electric tailgate, twin electric moon-roofs, all-LED headlamps, electrically adjustable and ventilated seats, and leather upholstery all around. Talking of the infotainment system, the Vellfire gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen unit mounted on the dashboard, while the second-row occupants get two separate 10.2-inch displays.
To let the occupants enjoy this tech-laden MPV, Toyota has carved out ample space inside the Vellfire. With massive dimensions measuring at 4935 mm in length, 1850 mm in width, 1895 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3000 mm, Toyota Vellfire seats 7 in utmost comfort.
The Vellfirecompete against the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which is priced at Rs. 68.40 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). However, the Vellfire being an expensive car comes with an advanced powertrain, which is ahead of its time and helps it take on the V-Class with its manageable proportions.
