The TRD and Modellista customization kits were introduced for the Toyota Yaris Cross on the same day when the car marked its official debut in Japan.
Toyota’s in-house tuners, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and Modellista have just introduced new customization kits to the Yaris Cross which just made its debut in its home country. While the TRD sports division brings to the subcompact SUV a new rally kit, Modellista has introduced an urban style package to the vehicle. TRD and Modellista go on a different route when it comes to the styling design. While the former comes in a more off-road oriented design, the Modellista makes the Yaris Cross look posher and premium suitable for the urban operations.
TRD Rally kit
The customized TRD Rally kit is developed on the “Functional Edge Style” concept that offers many GR Parts for the subcompact SUV. Some prominent customizations on the package include a new bumper, red-white rally mudguards with GR logo, cladding for the wheel arches, aftermarket side skirts and more.
There are also 18-inch blacked-out alloy wheels, door handles protectors, tinted optics, carbon fibre number plate and more. Having said, the red mud flaps incorporated with Gazoo Racing (GR) logo are in line with other rally cars, thereby enhancing the sportiness quotient of the model. Custom sun shades with a branded trunk mat, door stabilisers, etc. are some additional GR parts on the Yaris Cross. The rear spoiler with black cladding along with matte black finishes for the boot just rolls out a more rugged look for the vehicle.
The Modellista Package just imitates over contemporary SUVs in the urban hubs considering the styling design. The customizations here don’t come off too extreme and are re-painted in body colour which gives the car a more massive visual appeal than it actually is.
The Modellista Package is offered in two options – Advance Robust Style and Elegant Ice Style, both of which offer some provisions like side and rear skirts, newly-built 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, body-coloured cladding on the wheel arches and beefy front spoiler.
The Elegant Ice Style Package further provides a roof spoiler, door handle garnish, rear garnish, mirror garnish along with a revamped radiator front grille. On the inside, the package also brings in some interior updates such as added illumination for the centre console, decorative linings with new colours among many others. It also features a wooden luggage deck, chrome and Bordeaux red garnishes, scuff plates, LED cabin lights among others.
On the mechanical front, there aren’t any changes to the Toyota Yaris Cross. The subcompact SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is good enough to produce a maximum power of 120 HP and comes paired with a CVT option. Apart from the standard front-wheel drive, a hybrid powertrain with an electric AWD system are also available in the model.
