In India, the upcoming 7-seater Jeep Grand Compass will initially be offered with a diesel engine only. The new 7-seat Jeep SUV will look quite similar to the Compass facelift.

According to a recent report from Autos Segredos, initially, the all-new Jeep Compass seven-seater will be offered with an oil-burner only. The upcoming 7-seater Compass is known by several names, including Jeep Grand Compass, Jeep 598, and Jeep Low-D 3-row SUV. The recent development probably applies only to Brazil. Nevertheless, in India, the diesel engines are highly preferred in bigger SUVs, which mean that FCA may offer the new Jeep Compass seven-seater in our country with only a diesel power plant. One can expect the automaker to offer the SUV with a petrol engine at a later stage in case a demand arises. With the petrol engine option, the SUV will become more accessible, which is quite important especially in its segment.

The automaker is currently testing the upcoming Jeep Compass seven-seater in Brazil. As one can see in the spy pictures, the road testing of the car is underway. The design of the all-new model will be quite similar to the upcoming Jeep Compass facelift, which is expected to hit the Indian shores by the end of this year. The all-new Jeep 7-seater will employ a bigger rear quarter glass that will be 120 mm away from the end of the D-pillar. Mechanically, the India-spec Jeep Grand Compass will be powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel motor. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed MT or a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

An AWD system will also be offered but as an optional in the top-spec variants. Once launched, it’ll compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV500, upcoming Tata Gravitas, and MG Hector Plus. The upcoming Tata Gravitas and MG Hector Plus will be offered with a petrol powertrain along with a FCA-sourced diesel engine. Both of these SUVs were showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 earlier this year. Talking of the prices of the upcoming 7-seater Compass, it is likely to start at Rs. 18.00 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The all-new SUV is expected to hit our market by the second half of next year.
