Upcoming Honda ZR-V Compact SUV Launch Timeline Revealed

As per a recent report, the long-awaited Honda HR-V will make its global debut on 18th February 2021. The carmaker working on a new compact SUV, which will be positioned below HR-V in the automaker’s stable. It is expected to get introduced by May 2021, nevertheless, a new media report claims that the upcoming SUV will be introduced by June next year. The new model of the SUV is expected to hit the Indian shores by the end of this year or early 2021. 

It is rumoured to be called Honda ZR-V. Once launched, it will rival the like of Toyota Raize, Suzuki Crosby, Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky in Japan. In the Indian market, it will rub shoulders against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Reports suggest that the Japanese-spec ZR-V will be 4,100 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall. Nevertheless, the India-spec model will be positioned under 4-meter in length. The upcoming model is expected to be based on the Amaze’s platform. Recent reports suggest that the platform of the new Honda Jazz could be used to develop the new platform. However, this will make the price of the car sensitive in markets like India and Indonesia.

Mechanically, the Honda ZR-V is reported to get propelled by a 1.0-litre VTEC turbo petrol mill, which also powers the fifth-gen City in Thailand and Civic in Europe. The engine is capable of shredding out 129 PS of power and 180 Nm of twisting force. The engine offered with City develops power and torque outputs of 121bhp and 180 Nm. The engine comes paired with a manual and CVT gearbox. Moreover, it is also expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre NA petrol mill with Honda’s compact hybrid system (e-HEV). The hybrid system is also offered with international-spec new-gen Jazz. It will be offered in India-spec City RS Hybrid, which is slated to hit the Indian shores in the coming months.
