Kia working over to launch a mid-size MPV after Sonet to take on the likes of Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marrazzo.

Kia Motors has launched its second product in the market in the form of Carnival, and the production form of the Sonet concept is going to be their third product. The Korean carmaker has garnered a reputation for itself with the potent, capable, and stylish Seltos and is wishing for the same with the Carnival. The Carnival happens to be a full-size MPV and it starts at a price tag of Rs. 24.95 lakhs. This makes the Carnival a little northwards of the price range, what an average middle-class household plans to spend on their MPV purchase. To cater to that segment, Kia has confirmed that it will soon be introducing a mid-size MPV to take on the likes of Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marrazzo.

Kia mid-size MPV is going to be developed on the Seltos’s platform. It will, however, be a size bigger than the Seltos to accommodate 7 seats inside the cabin. The idea behind coming up with a car in this segment is that MPVs are growing quite popular around the buyers from middle-class looking for a car to haul the complete family together. On this very note, Mr. Han-Woo Park, President and CEO, Kia Motors, added, “As you can see, we have launched the Carnival, and with this, we will develop the luxury MPV segment in the Indian market. I have already got some good response from Indian consumers. We are now thinking about another MPV. As you know, Kia is a very strong SUV and MPV player. So the next one I’m considering is another MPV model for Indian customers.”

It is quite evident, that MPV space is also growing at a rapid pace alongside the SUV market. Maruti sold more than 93,000 Ertiga in 2019 even when the market was facing a massive slowdown further confirmed the importance of this mid-size MPV for Kia. Maruti’s announcement of discontinuing the diesel engine from Ertiga would also help Kia to get a hold of this segment. However, there’s some more time to get a glimpse of test-prototype of this upcoming mid-size MPV from Kia, but till then keep watching this space for more exclusive content on IndianAuto.com
