Renault's upcoming sub-4-metre sedan (codenamed LBA) is slated to be introduced in the Indian market. Take a look at how the car might look like.

IndianAuto had previously reported that Renault is currently working on a sub-4-metre sedan based on its extremely popular Kwid hatchback. If you’re wondering what the upcoming subcompact Renault sedan would look like, well, just take a look below.

The image above has been submitted by Neel Merai, an avid reader and fan of IndianAuto. The image uses a Renault Symbol (also known as Thalia or Logan in some international markets) as the base. The Symbol/Thalia/Logan is a compact sedan, a little over 4-metres in length. The front-end of the car features a new front grille and headlamp design, borrowed from Renault Megane. The ‘comma’ shaped headlights and LED DRLs look brilliant. This is quite a unique design philosophy in today’s market, a departure from the vertically-split headlamps. The front bumper has been redesigned and features chrome-plated foglamp housings. You can take a closer look at the rendering process in the video below.

The new subcompact sedan by Renault, codenamed LBA, will be underpinned by the company’s CMF-A+ modular platform. While there has been no confirmation about the powertrain, we expect the car to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged inline-3 (TCe) engine. This motor is capable of generating a peak power of 100 PS and a maximum torque of 160 Nm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, although the latter might be introduced a few months after the car’s launch.

The French carmaker had previously shelved the ‘LBA’ project due to the relatively lower demand for sedans compared to SUVs. Venkatram Mamillapalle, MD and CEO, Renault India, was quoted last year stating that the project “could be back on the table”. Considering the timeline, we’d say a concept vehicle could be unveiled any day this year, with a production-spec model following soon after. Upon launch, the sedan would rival against the likes of Maruti Dzire, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Honda Amaze.

In other news, Renault is also planning to introduce a subcompact SUV to the Indian market soon. Codenamed ‘HBC’, the upcoming Renault SUV is due for a launch soon. It will be underpinned by the same CMF platform as the ‘LBA’ sedan, and might sport the same 1.0 TCe engine as well.
