The BS6 Nissan Kicks will be powered by a 1.3-litre, four-pot turbocharged petrol unit, which will make it more powerful than Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

A few weeks back, we reported that Nissan will launch the BS6 Kicks SUV in the Indian market in coming months. The updated SUV will only derive power from a gasoline engine. The carmaker has decided to discontinue the 1.5-litre K9K oil burner from the domestic market. Recently, it has emerged that the 2020 model will be propelled by a new BS6-compliant 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Codenamed HR13DDT, the new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol motor was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year. Moreover, the engine was fitted in the Renault Duster Turbo at the motor show.

The new powertrain is 18bhp more powerful than Hyundai Creta

The new power plant is capable of pumping out 156bhp of maximum power and 254 Nm of peak torque, which will make 2020 Kicks the most potent SUV in its segment. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed manual and 8-step CVT. The car is even more powerful than the most powerful variant of the new-gen Hyundai Creta.

As you may know already, the Hyundai Creta is offered in 3 different powertrain options, and the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine is the most powerful of them all. It produces 138bhp of peak power. This means the new Nissan Kicks will be 18bhp more powerful than the new-gen Hyundai Creta. The new 1.3-litre petrol mill is co-developed by Daimler and Nissan-Renault.
