Despite sharing Toyota’s new TNGA platform, the China-spec and US-spec Toyota Corolla may be different from each other in terms of the design as well as the mechanical specifications.

Toyota has recently disclosed the newest version of the Toyota Corolla in the China and US market. The two vehicles appear to differ from each other with regard to the exterior and interior design as well as the performance. It is expected that the China-bound Toyota Corolla will be introduced to the Indian auto market by 2020. Let’s discover the differences between the US-spec and China-spec Toyota Corolla.

1. US-spec Vs. China-spec Toyota Corolla Front Fascia

The most remarkable difference lies in front of the two vehicles. The new US-bound model looks much more muscular with a large honeycomb grille and LED strips on fog lamps, the Chinese model still sports horizontal slats on the front grille which are also equipped on the outgoing Corolla model and round fog lamps. However, the two cars have similar headlamps which are one of the rear similar features between their front.

2. US-spec Vs. China-spec Toyota Corolla Rear

Although the side profile of the two cars is almost the same as each other, it is easy to recognize considerable differences in their rear. The tail lamps and the rear bumpers have been redesigned to be different between the two vehicles.  To harmonize with the front, the rear bumper of the US-spec model comes with a black honeycomb insert. Furthermore, it is also equipped with dual exhaust pipes which can be easily noticed (with a view to adding to its sportiness) instead of the single one which is hidden below the rear bumper on the Chinese model.

3. Chrome on the China-spec model but none on the US-spec one

The China-bound model features a large amount of chrome all around its body. Nevertheless, for the purpose of making the car as sporty as possible, the Japanese automaker has decided to eliminate all chrome bits from the US-spec vehicle.

4. US-spec Vs. China-spec Toyota Corolla Interior

The design of the cabin in both of the two vehicles appears to be almost the same except for only an outstanding distinction which is the interior colour shades. Whereas the US-spec Corolla comes with two tones of paint schemes for the cabin, the China-spec model features only a dark theme.

5. US-spec Vs. China-spec Toyota Corolla Performance

The US-bound vehicle will be powered by the 1.8L engine which is also used for the last-gen Corolla, but it has been detuned to be more fuel efficient and more powerful. On the other hand, the China-spec sedan will receive power from a novel 2.0L motor which can deliver a maximum power of 169PS and a peak torque of 204Nm.

It is expected that the China-spec Toyota Corolla will come to India in 2020 and the US-spec vehicle would be exclusively sold in North America. The new sedan will be another big hit of Toyota in the Indian auto market, helping the giant Japanese automaker reinforce its position in the Indian sedan segment in particular and Indian auto market in general.
