Considering the fast growth of the SUV segment in the Indian auto market, Volkswagen has decided to introduce four SUV models to the country by 2021.

Despite the recent slump in the whole Indian auto industry, the SUV segment is still recording a fast growth. As a result, many auto manufacturers, including Volkswagen, are planning to introduce Volkwagen new SUV models to the market. Four SUVs from the German automaker have been slated for launch by 2021, with the first one to roll out in the first half of 2020.

Volkswagen is going to introduce four new SUV models to the Indian auto market by 2021

Commenting on the plan, Steffen Knapp, Director of Volkswagen passenger cars, stated,

“We will showcase our new brand philosophy and strategy for India 2.0 as well as three of our new SUV offerings at the Auto Expo 2020. The first ones of these will be launched in the second quarter of next year and our smallest SUV, nicknamed A0 SUV, will be rolled out in 2021.”

Realizing that constant upgrades and value-for-money quotient are necessary to keep Indian customers interested, Volkswagen AG has decided to reduce the ownership cost of its cars in India by over 30% as part of the strategy. Moreover, Volkswagen will also manufacture only BSVI-compliant vehicles after December 2019. After the new, more stringent emission standard takes effect, the German carmaker will shelve the production of its diesel-powered vehicles in favour of petrol, hybrid, and even electric vehicles.
