The Volkswagen Taigun was showcased at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, it will be based on the localized MQB A0 IN platform and will rival Kia Seltos and New Hyundai Creta

Volkswagen and Skoda showcased several products and concepts at the 2020 Auto Expo, making their intentions clear that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Indian automobile segment in the upcoming years. The Skoda Vision IN concept was of particular focus as it will birth a mid-size SUV next year while Volkswagen showcased the production-ready Taigun. Both the vehicles will have common underpinnings like powertrains and a heavily localized version of the MQB architecture.

Volkswagen supposedly will launch the Taigun in mid-2021 and has been listed on the company’s official website already. The front of the Taigun five-seater gets sharply styled LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, twin horizontal grille slats, a busy chrome garnished bumper section and a wide air intake. Looking at the Volkswagen Taigun from the rear three-quarters, we see design features like a sharp beltline, blackened B-pillars, silver roof rails, a chrome garnished bumper with faux skid plate,  silver side sills, a roof-mounted spoiler, and black wheel arch cladding which cover 17-inch diamond-cut alloys. Though do note that the production-ready version of the Taigun will be toned down from the one showcased at the Auto Expo, reasons being practicality and all that.

Over to the interior of the Volkswagen Taigun, it will feature a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto inbuilt, an all-digital instrument cluster, multi-functional steering wheel, contrast stitches, and the likes. The Taigun is based on the same made-in-India MQB A0 IN platform as the Vision IN based mid-size SUV and the future VW products will sit on the same architecture. The locally-made architecture is going to lower the production costs a lot and this should make the Taigun to be priced competitively against rivals like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks, and others.
