Last year, the Toyota Corolla was the most sold passenger car across the world. Toyota managed to retail 12,36,380 units of the premium sedan in 2019, which raised the sales volumes of Corolla by 4.1 per cent. Approximately 1,422 units were sold in the Indian market. The sedan was discontinued in our market a few months back because the carmaker decided against updating the car as per the new BS6 emission norms, and we hope the car to make a comeback in the near future in its latest generation avatar. Pick-up trucks are also the part of the 10 most sold cars in 2019 list because people around the globe are quite fanatic about these vehicles.
Sales of the Toyota Corolla have been raised by 4.1 per cent on YoY basis
Pick-ups like Ford F-Series, Chevy Silverado and Dodge Ram shared strong sales numbers. Ford’s F-Series is known for its performance and utility factors, and it was the second most sold car around the world last year. Ford retailed 10,70,234 units of the pick-up. As compared to last year, its sales volume was marginally lower by 1.1 per cent. On the other hand, Toyota’s premium SUV RAV4 has recorded a healthy sales of 9,31,852 unit, an 11.7 per cent YoY sales growth.
Just like the previous-gen Honda Civic, the new-gen model is also experiencing a roaring success. The premium sedan was the fourth most sold vehicle globally. Honda sold 8,21,371 units of the car last year. In the Indian market, the automaker retailed 4,928 units of the tenth-gen Honda Civic. The elder sibling of the sedan, CR-V, registered a total sale of 8,18,981 units along with YoY sales growth of 12 per cent. Almost 1,083 models of the SUV were sold in the domestic market.

Another popular car that is also retailed in our market is the VW Tiguan. The SUV retailed 7,41,297 units globally, with a sales decline of 7.6 per cent. Only 1,200 units were retailed in India. The RAM pick-up truck has played a major role for FCA and was able to grab the seventh position by selling 7,31,895 units. Toyota Carmy is the third Toyota car on this list. The sales of the premium sedan have been raised by 3.1 per cent, with a total retail of 6,90,729 units last year. The last two cars on our list of world’s 10 most sold cars in 2019 are VW Golf and Chevrolet Silverado. The sales of both cars got declined by 12.9 per cent (VW Golf) and -.5 per cent (Chevrolet Silverado). VW sold 6,87,664 units of Golf last year, while Chevy retailed 6,44,013 units of its popular pick-up truck.
