One Month Before the D-Day: What to expect on 2018 Hyundai’s Santro

On October 23, the Hyundai Santro will be launched. The reboot of the legendary brand “Santro” for the Indian market is one of the most awaited cars in 2018. There is only one month left until the official “debut” of the Santro, and here are all we could know up until now about this much-anticipated car from Hyundai.

1. The history of Hyundai Santro

The launch next month is not actually the first time the name Santro has appeared in the Indian market. In fact, the name Santro has first be introduced as the first car of the Korea automaker in the Indian market. And this hatchback was a huge success for Hyundai, marking the rise of one of the leading auto brands in the market. But the old Santro was finally discontinued in 2015. And the soon-to-be-launched Santro will inherit the name of the memorable predecessor and the hope to expand the success of the forerunner.

This time, Hyundai will add the name Santro with a suffix. And to add more excitement to the re-arrival of a legend, Hyundai has decided to throw a naming competition to find the suffix for its new car. In this pool, people will cast their vote to pick the suffix name for the AH2, the new Santro’s codename. As anticipated, there are more than two lakhs votes gathered. And the result will soon be unveiled, possibly close to the official launch.

 2. What to expect in the new Santro?

Until now, there is still little to know about the new Santro. Here are all that we could know about the Santro until now.

2.1. Hyundai Santro 2018 Design

Until now, we have seen some spy shot of the car as well as the sketch picture of it. As the car is camouflaged carefully, there are not much to tell, except for one thing: the new car will take the tall boy stance of its predecessor. It would mean that the entrance and exit of the car will be considerably easier than the low-set entrance car.

2.2. Hyundai Santro 2018 Features

Looking at the on-going trend of the Hyundai’s line-up, it is totally safe to say that the new Santro will be feature-loaded. As what we see from what Hyundai gives to the Grand i10 and Elite i20, the Hyundai will be likely to feature a touchscreen unit Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity, the rear parking camera, ORVMs and more. And the safety kit will not be humble neither as much of the newly-launched models come with a decent package of at least dual airbags, ABS and EBD.

2.4. Hyundai Santro 2018 Engines

The Santro will receive power from a 1-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. It is expected to make around 65PS and 95NmAn optional five-speed AMT will be featured for the first time in an Indian-spec Hyundai car.

One bad news for the diesel head is that Hyundai has confirmed that the diesel version will not be offered on its new hatchback.

2.5. Hyundai Santro 2018 Prices

This hatchback will enter the entry-level segment. The price is expected to range from around 4.5 lakh to 5.5 lakh. It will be positioned between the Eon and the Grand i10. And it will lock horns with other cars like Tata Tiago or Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Maruti Suzuki WagonR.
