I. What is RTO?
RTO stands for Regional Transport Office. Also known as Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), this department is a government body whose key responsibility is to perform the duties and functions in the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 under the guidance of the Motor Vehicles Department.
In particular, these departments will be primarily accountable for enforcing and providing vehicle registration, driver license issuance as well as maintaining and the database of all vehicles and drivers within the region.

III. Guide to different RTO processes
1. Obtaining a driving license
Obtaining a driving license involves many procedures but you can completely prepare for the test with these simple steps:
- Age and address proof document
- RTO Form No.2/4 for learning and driving license
- Medical certificate Form no.1(A)
- Apply for the exam for learners
- Apply for the permanent license after receiving the learner license.
- Apply and schedule a fixed date for the practical test
Often, you should receive the driving license within one week once you pass the practical exam.
2. Vehicle registration
It’s compulsory to bring the vehicle to the local RTO for registration with the required documents stated below:

After you prepare all the documents, you should bring them to the local RTO office where you want your vehicle to be registered. On submitting the documents and paying RTO registration fees, the vehicle will go through a process of inspection and verification. Within seven days, you should receive a registration certificate from the local RTO.

RTO Vehicle Re-registration:
When you move to another state for living, it is required to re-register your vehicle. Most of the documents needed to get your car re-registered are all stated in the list above. For obtaining a vehicle re-registration certificate in a different region, the time span should be within 15 days.
3. Vehicle Ownership Transfer
Transfer of vehicle ownership is necessary when you are no longer the owner of the car. For example, you sold the vehicle, or you gifted it to someone else. The procedures of vehicle ownership transfer include:

On submitting the documents and paying the necessary fees, the RC transfer is claimed to take place in seven days. However, it depends on RTOs that the vehicle will be transferred within 21 to 30 days.
