The Czech carmaker, Skoda, is the last one in India to announce an increase in the prices across all of its models by up to 2% from the beginning of January 2019.

The company has associated the price hike with the increasing transport and input cost both in the domestic and importing market. Commenting on the price growth, Zac Hollis, Director – Sales, Service, and Marketing, Skoda Auto India Pvt Ltd stated,

"There has been a surge in the cost of our inputs for production due to significant volatility in the global commodity prices and foreign exchange rates in recent times. Skoda Auto India has been absorbing these incremental costs all this while but is now considering a price increase of up to two percent with effect from January 1, 2019, across its model range.”

According to the new pricing scheme, the Skoda Kodiaq's price would increase by Rs 80,000 from 2019

This is not the only time that Skoda has announced a price increase this year. Earlier this year, Skoda had introduced price hikes two times. The first one was January 2018 when all the Skoda models experienced a 2-3% increase in prices. The second one was in March when the Skoda cars’ prices increased by Rs 35,000.

In order to compensate for the price hike and encourage sales, Skoda has also started a novel ‘Buy Now Pay in 2020’ EMI scheme, in which Skoda customers can buy a Skoda car now and pay for it in 2020. Moreover, Skoda customers can also enjoy some other special offers from the Czech carmaker such as interest rates from 8.99%, 100% on-road funding, special EMI packages, which results in benefits ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,00,000.

In terms of the company’s expected vehicles in the near future, two brand-new products of the company are anticipated to be introduced to the Indian auto market, which belongs to the ‘India 2.0’ plan. This plan is implemented by the Volkswagen Group, which owns Skoda. According to this plan, four new models which are underpinned by the Indian derivative of Volkswagen MQB-A0 platform will be introduced to the Indian auto market in the coming time. The first one will be a Skoda SUV, which is scheduled for the year of 2020.
