2020 Honda City city is here in its fifth-generation avatar. Today, we have got the VW Vento for an acceleration test against the latest City.

The Honda City nameplate has been in the Indian auto market since 1998, making it one the longest-running names currently on sale. Even though the Indian auto market has been dominated by SUVs over the last couple of years, the City bucks that trend. The latest generation Honda City launched this year, and last month’s sales report shows that it sold more than Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna put together. The new fifth-generation City follows a more evolutionary update instead of being revolutionary and plans to continue the sales success of its predecessor. Today, we at IndianAuto have got the all-new Honda City and the VW Vento TSI for an acceleration test.

As you’ll see in the video above, we have got the new Honda City and VW Vento TSI both in their manual gearbox variants. The test will be a 0-100 kmph acceleration run with a best of three format. For the first run, The Vento posts a time of 9.12 seconds to 100 kmph, the City doing it 10.86 seconds. Second time around, the Vento reaches 100 kmph in 9.25 seconds while the City took 10.32 seconds. Both the cars post their slowest times in their final run, the Vento taking 9.46 seconds versus the City’s 10.80 seconds. The Honda City was a second or more slower to 100 kmph over all three runs. This is because the City is a bit heavier than the Vento, and also the VW is turbocharged which means it makes a better torque figure to give it a quicker start off the line.

The Honda City we tested here is powered by 1.5-litre N/A petrol engine which makes 121 PS/145 Nm of peak power and torque figures. The VW Vento TSI has a smaller 1-litre turbo-petrol engine which churns out max power and torque figures of 110 PS/175 Nm. Both vehicles are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
