Recently, the Kia Seltos achieved the top rating in the IIHS crash test. However, it is the disappointing headlights that made it disqualified for the IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick Award.

The US-bound Kia Seltos has recently experienced IIHS (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety) crash and safety tests with high results. Nevertheless, had it not been for the disappointing headlights, the SUV would have qualified for the IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick Award.

The Kia Seltos was subjected to different crash tests like the side and roof strength, driver and passenger side small overlap and front moderate overlap. The car passed all of them with good ratings. The SUV also scored top ratings in vehicle-to-passenger and vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention. Noteworthily, the camera-based front crash prevention unit in lower-spec variants properly performed during the tests. In the meanwhile, a camera and a radar to prevent collision are available in the higher-spec ones. The car’s structure was also rated as good with high scores in the prevention of severe injuries to the driver.

Besides these, the SUV’s headlights performed disappointingly, which leads to its failure to qualify for the IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick Award. The Kis Seltos offers LED and halogen headlights, depending on the variants, both of which failed efficiently illuminate the road along the curves.

The overall results of the Kia Seltos in the IIHS crash test were good.

The crash test of the India-bound Kia Seltos is not available; nevertheless, it is expected to deliver an equally good performance to its US counterpart. Noteworthily, the India-bound model is not equipped with a front crash prevention system which is offered in the US one. In the safety front, the India-bound Kia Seltos offers six airbags, ABS, hill holder, tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle stability management and dynamic stability control, etc.

The Kia Seltos has recorded remarkable success in India, helping the South Korean auto manufacturer become the fastest company in India to achieve the 1-lakh milestone in sale number. The upcoming Kia Sonet, which has managed to record more than 10,000 bookings, will also be launched later this month. Like its bigger brother, the new sub-4-metre compact SUV is anticipated to be sold in India as its primary market and will also be on sale in several foreign markets as well.
