Neither Maruti nor Suzuki will likely make this compact pickup into the production. The production-spec Maruti Jimny is likely to launch in India in 2022.

It’s commonly known that the Maruti Gypsy is no longer on sale in the Indian market. Whereas, the launch timeline of the India-spec Jimny which reportedly comes as the replacement of Gypsy is left unconfirmed until now. Some people at Mightyseed have come up with the idea of building their own cars in the long wait. Here’s a digital rendering of the 2021 Maruti Gypsy which is, based on the Jimny, showing up with a retro-modern compact pickup body style.

2021 Maruti Gypsy Pickup Digitally Imagined

This is a creative work from the folks at Mightyseed – an innovative design company that has come up with a lot of interesting-looking neo-classic designs for cars like this pickup version of the Maruti Gypsy. Unlike other digital illustrators trying to modernize the old vehicles, the artist at Mightyseed has completely reimagined the Gypsy while he manages to retain its original charm.

The circular headlamps and five-slot front grille of the Gypsy appear in a more modern appeal but they still get a heavy visual link with the original version. Also, this modified Gypsy receives a practical bumper design, a flat bonnet, flared wheel arches along with raised ground clearance, all the ways to make the Gypsy a handsome-looking and utilitarian mini off-roader.

That said, there are a lot of amendments made to the Gypsy to give it a rugged look. The rear end of the car looks wider and comes with LED taillamps, silver skid plate with tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Neither Maruti nor Suzuki would bring this neo-class compact pickup model into the production but we do expect that this rendering would form a perfect inspiration for the modification.

Maruti Jimny Launch In India

Maruti Suzuki first showcased the Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020 and the SUV has been at the heart of attention since then. Initially, Maruti Suzuki revealed its plan to launch the Jimny in India under the name of Gypsy but the production was shelved at a later date. However, recent reports confirmed that the company had commenced the CKD assembly of the Jimny in India for the export purpose. That said, with locally-sourced components, the 5-door Jimny is highly likely to be launched in India but we’ll have to wait for this happening until 2022.
