Current best-selling SUV in the Indian auto market, the Hyundai Creta, is going to face some heat from four upcoming SUVs which are going to be launched in the country in 2021. Read on for details.

Launched in March 2020, the second-gen Hyundai Creta has been warmly welcomed by Indian customers, especially SUV enthusiasts. The Hyundai Creta is currently one of the best-selling SUVs in the Indian auto market with more than 12,000 units sold almost every month. Nevertheless, the car is facing fierce competition from the Kia Seltos; this competition will become much tougher as 4 new mid-sized SUVs will be launched in the country in 2021. Facelifted MG ZS

Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the facelifted MG ZS is slated for launch in the 2nd quarter of 2021. The new car will have a more premium design with chrome treatment. The SUV is likely to come with a new hexagonal grille with chrome surround, LED headlights with DRLs, new LED taillights and 17-inch alloy wheels.

As regards the interior, the SUV will be equipped with top-notch features such as a wide 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity, digital instrument console, MG iSmart connected car technology, panoramic sunroof, etc. The SUV will also witness the introduction of MG’s 1.0-litre turbo gasoline burner which can generate nearly 120 BHP. Positioned below the Hector, the MG ZS is anticipated to be priced from INR 9 lakh to INR 13 lakh.

Volkswagen Taigun

After unveiling the VW Taigun at the 2020 Auto Expo, the German automaker will launch the SUV in the Indian auto market in mid-2021. The new SUV will be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 IN platform which will also serve as the chassis for the new-gen VW Vento. Thanks to the high level of localization, the price of the Taigun is expected to be kept low.

 

The new Taigun will be equipped with LED headlights with LED DRLs, LED foglights, 17-inch alloy rims, LED taillights, sunroof, a massive touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technologies, etc. The VW Taigun is powered by two motor options: a 1.5-litre turbo gasoline burner which is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic unit and a 1.3-litre 3-cyl turbo petrol motor which is paired with a 6 MT unit or a 6-speed torque converter.

Skoda Vision IN

The Skoda Vision IN will be launched in India in the 2nd quarter of 2021. The new SUV will also be underpinned by the VW Group’s MQB A0 IN platform borrowed from the VW Polo, T-Cross and Kamiq. Expected to be priced between INR 9.5 lakh to INR 15 lakh, the SUV will directly compete against the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

The Skoda Vision IN will receive its power from two motor options: a 1.5-litre TSI gasoline burner and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor. While the former can deliver 148 BHP against 250 Nm and is mated to a 7-speed DSG, the latter can generate 110 BHP against 175 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed MT/torque converter.

New Mahindra Scorpio

The Mahindra Scorpio will receive a new generation in the mid-2021. The new model will be supported by the modified ladder-on-frame chassis, which also serves as the basis for the new-gen Mahindra Thar. This means that the new SUV will witness an increase in its dimensions, which translates into a more spacious cabin in comparison with the outgoing model. The new-gen Scorpio will be equipped with numerous advanced features which include a modern touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, etc.

The new Mahindra Scorpio is expected to receive its power from two new motor options: a 2.0-litre turbo gasoline burner and a 2.2-litre turbo oil burner. These motors are borrowed from the new-gen Mahindra Thar but will be tuned to be suitable for the new Scorpio.
