The Indian car buyer is finally getting wiser and asking for more safety features in their vehicles. Today we have the safest cars being sold in India whose prices start under Rs 10 lakh.

The Indian auto market is one of the biggest in the world, and most of the global automakers sell their products here. But India is also a very price-sensitive market, leading to automakers compromising on safety features. They prefer to forego safety and instead add fancy features, best-claimed fuel economy, and cheaper price tags. But as consumers are getting wiser and looking for better safety features, brands have had to increase their safety features in their products. Today, we at IndianAuto decided to list the 5 safest cars in India you can buy currently with a starting price of Rs 10 lakh. Let’s take a look.

Mahindra XUV 300

The Mahindra XUV 300 is India’s safest car as per the New Car Assessment Program rating, earning it the Global NCAP’s first-ever Safer Choice award. It was the first car from a homegrown manufacturer to achieve the highest scores in the crash test. The compact SUV scored a full five stars for adult production (scoring 16.42 out of 17) and four stars for child occupant protection (scoring 37.44 out of 49). It comes with standard safety features like dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS.

Tata Altroz

The first premium hatchback to get the full five stars, the Tata Altroz comes in second in the safest cars and in India. The Tata Altroz received the full five-star rating (scoring 16.13 out of 17) for adult protection, and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 29 out of 49). It comes with dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS as standard.

Tata Nexon

The Nexon is the second product from Tata that scored the full five stars (scoring 16.06 out of 17) for adult protection and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 25 out of 49). You get dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS across all trim levels as standard.

Tata Tigor/Tiago

Tata’s Tigor and Tiago siblings get four stars (scoring 12.52 out of 17) for adult protection and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 34.15 out of 49). Both of them were tested recently and get standard safety features like dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS.

These were the top five, but we should give an honourable mention to the following two vehicles which scored top marks in Global NCAP. Unfortunately, they couldn’t be included as their starting prices were above Rs 10 lakh.

Mahindra Marazzo

Mahindra’s Marazzo was tested a while back in 2018, and it scored four stars (scoring 12.85 out of 17) for adult protection and two stars for child occupant protection (scoring 22.22 out of 49). It is the highest-rated four stars for a vehicle by Global NCAP, currently on sale in India. You get dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS across all variants.

Mahindra Thar

The Mahindra Thar would have made this list if it weren’t for the company to discontinue the base models, which were under Rs 10 lakh. The Thar Scored four stars (scoring 12.52 out of 17) for adult protection and four stars (scoring 41.11 out of 49) for child occupant protection. It comes with safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, hill-start, and descent assist, ESP with roll-over mitigation, and three-point seatbelts for four passengers.
