5 Things You DON’T Know About Next-gen Honda City

Honda City is one of the most popular sedans in India. First introduced in the Indian market in 1998, the City has always been one of the most reliable as well as comfortable passenger car for people with a relatively tight budget. Now, Honda is preparing for the launch of the next-generation model in India, which will be better than before in more ways than one. The official unveiling of all-new Honda City was delayed due to the nationwide lockdown, but now that things are slowly returning to normal, we expect the launch to happen soon.

Here are the top five things that you should know about the upcoming new-gen Honda City.

New 1.5-Litre Petrol Engine

Although the next-gen Honda City will also have a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine, just like the previous model, it will not be a SOHC unit, but a DOHC one. This would allow for better airflow in each cylinder, thus improving fuel economy as well as the power output. Where the current-gen model produces 119 PS and 145 Nm, the new one is expected to generate 121 PS and 155 Nm.

Will Not Replace The Current-Gen Model

Even after the newer model is launched in India, the previous generation City will not be discontinued. Instead, it will remain on sale as an entry-level compact sedan, a more affordable option to the new generation Honda City. This is not unheard of; Ford had previously done the same for the Fiesta, wherein they introduced the new-gen model as the Fiesta and continued to retail the older one as Fiesta Classic.

1.0 Turbo VTEC Engine Available In International Markets

The latest Honda City was first launched in Thailand last year, where it has a 1.0-litre, inline-3, turbocharged petrol engine option as well. This motor is capable of generating 123 Ps and 173 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. It comes mated to only a CVT transmission with paddle shifter behind the steering wheel. This powerplant, however, is unlikely to be available in India.

Alexa Remote Capability

The upcoming next-generation Honda City will be the first car in India to offer Alexa remote connectivity. This allows the car to synchronise with your Alexa home device, and thus allow users to perform plenty of tasks, like set reminders, change songs via voice command, etc.

Lane Watch System

Just like the current-gen Honda Civic, the new Honda City will offer Honda’s lane watch assist system. Whenever the left indicator is turned on, the system activates the camera mounted on the left ORVM and plays the footage on the infotainment screen. This allows drivers to be aware of traffic in their blind spot, thus improving the active safety of the vehicle.
