65 Tata Nexon EVs Inducted Into Kerala Motor Vehicle Department

65 units of Tata Nexon EV have made their way to the fleet of Kerala Motor Vehicle Department as a part of the 'Safe Kerala' initiative.

Tata Motors announced last Saturday that it has officially delivered 65 units of the Nexon EV to the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. These Nexon EVs will be deployed for the state’s ‘Safe Kerala’ initiative and is being seen as a huge move towards curbing emissions and eventually eliminate costs on conventional fossil fuels.

Tata Motors released a statement that the Nexon EVs have been leased to the Kerala MVD for eight years from the Energy Efficiency Services Talented (EESL) through the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) and the official handing-over ceremony took place on Saturday. Tata says that the use of its Nexon EVs will save on the costs of 2.2 lakh litres of diesel and help curb 650 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year approximately. These Nexon EVs will now participate in the ‘Safe Kerala’ initiative which aims to enhance road safety by reducing traffic offenses. 

The auto giant said that the use of Nexon EVs by the state’s MVD is validation for the feasibility of battery-powered vehicles in the country. Shailesh Chandra, President of Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said – “We are indeed proud that the Nexon EV is their preferred choice for the ‘Safe Kerala’ special project on road safety. The Nexon EV has emerged as India’s best-selling electric car, commanding a 63% market share in the personal EV segment and through these orders, we are hopeful that we will continue to lead the market". 

Starting at prices just under Rs 14 lakh, The Nexon EV is one of the most popular and affordable EVs in the market currently. Powering it is a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery which drives a 129 PS permanent-magnet AC motor and has a theoretical range of over 300 kilometres and also gets dust and water protection for the battery pack.  It takes 6-8 hours on a home AC outlet for the Nexon EV to fully charge, but if you use a public charger or have the fast charger at home you reach 80% within 50 minutes. It also comes loaded with features and goodies like an electric sunroof, six airbags, Hill Hold And Descent Control, rear parking camera, rear parking sensors, braking regeneration, drive modes, automatic headlamps, and a digital speedometer.
