The Kia Sonet will be launched in the Indian auto market in the next few days to become a direct competitor of the Hyundai Venue. The former will come with several features over the latter. Read on to discover.

The Indian sub-four-metre compact SUV segment is one of the most competitive spaces in the country with five products currently competing in the segment and much more expected to participate in. Over one month ago, Kia Motors revealed its sub-four-metre compact SUV, the Kia Sonet. The vehicle is slated for launch on September 18 and will become the third offering from the South Korean automaker for the Indian auto market. While it is widely known that the Kia Sonet will borrow its platform, motor options from the Venue, the former will be equipped with many features over the latter. Seven of these have been compiled below.

Segment-biggest 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system

The Hyundai Venue is equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system which supports Android Auto, Apple Carplay and Hyundai Blue Link connectivity. In the meanwhile, the Kia Sonet will be offered with the class-biggest 10.25-inch independent touchscreen infotainment system with Kia UVO connected technology and smartphone connectivity.

Digital instrument cluster

The Kia Sonet will be equipped with a 4.2-inch colour digital instrument cluster which matches well with the modern design of the cabin. In the meanwhile, the Hyundai Venue is packed with conventional analogue dials with a small MID in the middle.

Ventilated front seats

Ventilated front seats have been offered in Hyundai cars like the Hyundai Elantra, Verna and Creta. The two Kia models, the Carnival and Seltos are also available with this feature. Nevertheless, the Sonet will be the first-ever sub-four-metre compact SUV in the Indian auto market to be offered with ventilated front seats. Considering the humid and hot weather of the country, it is certainly a worthy feature for a car in this price range.

Bose music system and LED sound mood lighting system

Multi-drive modes & Traction modes

The Sonet offers three different driving modes: Sport, Normal and Eco, according to which the car responsively changes its throttle response. The Kia Sonet comes with three different traction modes over the Venue: Sand, Mud and Snow, which help the driver overcome different terrains.

Front parking sensors

The Mahindra XUV300 is the first SUV to be equipped with front parking sensors and the upcoming Kia Sonet will be the second one to be offered with this feature. It is quite useful when the car has to manoeuvre or park in tight spaces.

Diesel automatic

The Kia Sonet borrows the platform and the motor options from the Hyundai Venue. Specifically, the two sub compact SUVs receive their power from a 1.2-litre 4-cyl naturally aspirated gasoline burner which can generate 83 PS against 115 Nm, a 1.0-litre 3-cyl turbo petrol motor which can deliver 120 PS against 172 Nm and a 1.5-litre oil burner which is good for 100 PS against 240 Nm.

The transmission options shared between the two sub compact SUVs include 5-speed MT for the first motor, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT for the second unit and a 6-speed MT for the last one. The Hyundai Venue also comes with an optional 6-speed MT for the turbo-petrol motor. What is worth noting here is the fact that the Kia Sonet also gets an optional 6-speed torque converter for the 1.5-litre CRDi oil burner. Furthermore, Kia will maintain the power/torque figures of the diesel unit unchanged as the Kia Seltos, from which it originally borrowed the diesel motor. The 1.5-litre oil burner, when mated to the 6-speed torque converter, can deliver 115 PS against 250 Nm, which is 15 PS against 10 Nm higher than the diesel-manual combination.

Above is a compilation of the seven features which will be offered in the Kia Sonet but are absent in the Venue. Which car would you choose? Do not hesitate to write to us to share your ideas.
