Mahindra has recently revealed the new-gen Thar in the India market. The 2020 Mahindra off-roader will be sold with petrol and diesel engine options once it launches on October 2 this year

Mahindra & Mahindra recently revealed the new-gen Thar. The all-new off-roader is scheduled to launch in our market on 2nd October 2020 and will be available in LX and AX trims. The 2020 Mahindra Thar has drawn the attention of everyone around the country because it is being alleged that the new model takes heavy inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler. In fact, not long ago, Mahindra was even sued in the USA by Jeep for the design of Roxor. The American Regulator later prohibited the sale of the Roxor for damaging the intellectual property rights of FCA. However, in case you wonder if all the speculations of the new Thar being a 'copy' of the Wrangler are true, here are a couple of pictures that will help you find the truth.

The new set of pictures shows both the SUVs from both front and rear. Looking at the pictures, one can see that the new Thar does have an essence of the iconic Jeep model. However, the front grille and the bumper clearly make the new-gen Thar look a bit different from the Wrangler. True, at first glance, the new model looks a fair bit like the Wrangler, but much of this is due to the iconic SUV silhouette, which is surely something that even forms a connection between the two models. However, to say that the new Thar is a rip-off of the Wrangler is something that's unjustifiable.

At the back, both the SUVs get rectangular taillights along with a spare tyre mounted on in the middle of the tailgate. The differences that you will see are distinctive alloy wheels, bumpers and size of the taillights. Again, it's right that if you are someone who does not pay that much attention to the details, then you won’t be able to quickly differentiate between both the SUVs, but it's clear that the Wrangler is much bigger and while there are similarities in the body form, there's not even a single design detail that has been taken from the Wrangler. Mahindra is known to be offering 'Jeep'-style designs since forever now and the recent development should hardly come across as mildly surprising.

Also, as compared to the new-gen Mahindra Thar, the Jeep Wrangler is massive in size. Dimensionally, it is 4,882 mm long and 1,877 mm wide. On the other hand, the 2020 Mahindra Thar is only 3,985 mm long, which means that the Wrangler is almost 1 meter longer than the Thar. Moreover, the Jeep Wrangler is also wider and taller than the Thar. Almost every enthusiast around the country has appreciated the new-gen Mahindra Thar for its modern-yet-classic looks. It’s the first time that the off-roader will be offered with a petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. The 2020 Mahindra Thar is definitely a huge upgrade over the previous model and, we believe, we should appreciate all the progress that the carmaker has made instead of accusing it for 'copying' the design of the Wrangler.
