Maruti Celerio is all set to go on sale in its new-gen avatar by next year, and here's how it will look like. Take a look at the renderings here.

Maruti showcased the Celerio to the masses for the first time at the 2014 Auto Expo. The car looked plain, but Maruti officials gave a slight hint of its pricing, which lured a lot of potential customers. When it was initially launched at a starting price of Rs. 3.75 lakh, a lot of Alto and WagonR buyers shifted their interest to the Celerio. Since it is a bigger and spacious car than the Alto and boasts of better dynamics than the WagonR, however, it is now growing old, and dwindling sales are evidence of its age. Nevertheless, Maruti is developing a new-gen model of the Celerio, which is expected to go on sale by sometime next year. Its prototype was recently spotted during the test run, wrapped under heavy camouflage. But, our in-house design specialist – Shoeb R. Kalania managed to create a digital rendering of the new-gen Maruti Celerio, and it looks neat. It must be noted here that Akin to the current model, the new generation of Maruti's A2-segment hatchback will rival the likes of Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro.

In the rendering above, the new-gen Maruti Celerio does hold some reminiscence to the outgoing model. The silhouette is largely the same, but with added freshness. Interestingly, the new-gen Celerio will be underpinned by the Heartect platform, which is used on other Maruti cars. In terms of looks, the new-gen model will boast of a subtle design update.

It will continue to feature the upright stance of the outgoing model but in a more proportionate fashion now. As it can be seen in the rendering, the rear windscreen is raked just like the front one. It also gets redesigned headlamps and tail lamps that help it with improved aesthetics. So is the case with the creases on the sheet metal.

Also, it now sits on a set of diamond-cut alloy wheels, which do look fancy. In this blue shade, the new-gen Celerio looks gorgeous. Currently, the Celerio is powered by Maruti’s K10b power plant. This 3-pot petrol motor is good at developing 68 PS of peak power and 90 Nm of max torque. While these figures are not mind-shattering in any sense, they help the Celerio with an ARAI-rated mileage of 21.63 kmpl with petrol and 30.47 km/kg with CNG as a fuel. The new-gen Celerio is also expected to come with best-in-class mileage figures and an optional factory-fitted CNG kit.
