The Maruti Ignis is an offbeat and quirky hatchback, aimed at young individuals. Today we came across this slightly-tuned example, which borrows flashier rims from the Baleno. Check it out here.

Maruti Suzuki launched the Ignis hatchback in 2016 exclusively through their NEXA premium retail chain. Targeted to the millennial and young working demographic, the Ignis comes with a funky and quirky design that has had admirers and detractors alike. Most people have second thoughts about the rear end, but this also makes the Ignis easily stand out in the traffic. It also has some nice callbacks in its design like the three slashes on the C-pillar which is a homage to the Suzuki Fronte Coupe of the ’70s. The Ignis is also becoming a favourite among modifiers as aftermarket parts for it are quite easily available in the country. Today we came across this lightly modified Ignis which gets a new set of alloys from Maruti themselves.

This modified Maruti Ignis belongs to i.salmaan____kb, who had uploaded the pictures to Instagram. Though there are no extensive changes to it, you’ll notice that this Ignis is wearing a different set of wheels. In stock form, the Ignis comes with 15-inch wheels, which the owner has binned for a set of 16-inch diamond-cut OEM wheels. These wheels actually come as standard in the top trim levels of Maruti’s premium hatchback, the Baleno. The Baleno’s alloys fitted to the rim are only an inch bigger, but it fills up the Ignis’ wheel wells quite nicely. The only other change you’ll notice is the permanent race-style tow hook that protrudes out of the front bumper.

The Ignis received a mid-life facelift last year which updated its powertrain to meet BS-VI emission norms, and also brought visual tweaks like a new front grille, bumper, and fog lamp housings. Maruti also added two new colour options while the interior got a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.

It is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and torque figures, respectively. You can pair the engine with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission.
