Citroen's second product in the Indian market will be a compact-SUV that will do the job of adding volumes to the carmaker's sales tally. Here's how it will look like.

Citroen has recently revealed the C5 Aircross in the Indian market. The prices, however, are yet to be announced. But they are likely to be in the range of Rs. 30.00 lakh. The Citroen C5 Aircross comes to the Indian market as a CKD product. Thus, it will be an expensive offering from the French carmaker. To cater masses, the brand is planning to launch a smaller CC21 sub-4m compact-SUV by the first-half of 2022. Test mules of the same have been spotted numerous times in their near-production form. But how it will look like when it finally goes on sale? Well, our in-house rendering specialist – Shoeb R. Kalania, has come up with his illustration of Citroen’s second product in the Indian market, the Citroen CC21.

In the above rendering, the Citroen CC21 looks funky and chic. The upright stance that was prominent on the test mules is present here as well. The nose looks high but short. Also, the vertically-split headlamp assembly stays true to the new normal. Moreover, the wheel arches are squarish and add some drama to the overall design. The black cladding runs across the length and over the wheel arches to break the visual bulk. It also adds the much-needed rugged appeal. A small kink can be seen in the sheet metal around the rocker panel, which adds some beefy-ness to the rather plain expanse of metal.

An interesting bit here is the dual-tone paint scheme. The roof of the CC21 is finished in a shade of red, and a same colour tone is used for the ORVM caps. This theme has been seen on a lot of Citroen models in the international market. However, the door handles look boring as they are of lift to open-type. Around the rear-end, the cladding extends to the bumper to give it a dual-tone effect. Overall, the Citroen CC21 looks quite appealing in this rendering. However, the aesthetics miss out on dynamism.

The Citroen CC21 will be based on a modified version of the Common Modular Platform, which also underpins some low-cost offerings of Citroen’s sister brand – Peugeot, in Latin American markets. The CC21 is likely to go on sale with two engine options – 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol, 1.2L turbo-petrol and 1.5L diesel. These engines will only be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. With a localization level of up to 95 per cent, expect the Citroen CC21 to have a low starting price. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon and more.
