Even though some of us have not received the chance to try out the new Mahindra Thar yet, the company has sent the new model to various automotive publications for testing and review purposes. In most of these review videos, the new Mahindra Thar showcases its spectacular off-road capabilities. Seemingly, the new Thar is a thoroughbred off-roader that offers the proverbial 'go-anywhere' capability. However, a pack of journalists down South seem to have taken this a bit too seriously. A recent photograph captured the moment when the new Mahindra Thar got almost submerged in deep water while the above journos were testing the water-wading capability of the vehicle.

First Ever New Mahindra Thar Accident - Water-wading Goes HORRIBLY WRONG

In this viral photo, the Mahindra Thar’s front end is entirely submerged in the water. However, fortunately, it is not completely drowned. As the window of the car is opening, we suppose that drivers and passengers had successfully escaped. Don't get us wrong here, we really do not doubt the capabilities of the new SUV; it's just that the high off-roading prowess of this vehicle seems to have pushed the driver to go a bit overboard.

There are two possible reasons that might have caused the accident. The driver might have underestimated the depth of the lake and accidentally dragged this poor vehicle into this situation. It is also possible that the lake floor is made of soft mud which later sunk down due to the weight of the Mahindra Thar. The front end of the car is heavier since it bears the engine compartment, explaining why only the front of the vehicle got stuck.

According to what is promoted by Mahindra & Mahindra, the new-gen Thar’s wading capability is 650 mm, which can be considered quite impressive for a vehicle of this price. Even though the accident captured in the image might be a painful experience, it should not be considered a complete failure since thing tend to go out of hands during extreme off-roading.

Mahindra Thar is widely known for its off-roading capability. In its second generation, Mahindra has made the necessary adjustments to improve the off-road performance. The second-gen Mahindra Thar comes with more powerful engines, including a 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel engine. Other performance-focused updates include revised transmission, a 4WD system with transfer case, brake-locking differentials, ABS with ESP, and more. Even though the new Thar is significantly improved in terms of off-road performance, it is not purely invincible. There are certain limitations that the drivers should be aware of and should not cross. Even when you are an experienced driver with wonderful driving skills, it is advisable that you should never underestimate the tricky driving terrain and push your luck.
