Planning to fit a CNG kit in the Tata Altroz? Take a look at this example as it has already been fitted with one.

Tata Altroz is a premium hatchback from the Indian brand that rivals the likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. It starts at a price tag of Rs. 5.29 lakh, making it quite an affordable offering in the segment. However, this is the price for the base-spec petrol variant, whereas the base-spec diesel variant carries a premium of Rs. 1.60 lakh. This difference stays constant around similarly spec’d petrol and diesel variants. But, why are we talking about this? Because the diesel-powered Altroz is far more frugal than its petrol counterpart. The Rs. 1.60 lakh price difference, though, isn’t worth the extra fuel efficiency. The aftermarket CNG fitment proves to be a rather cheaper option, instead.

You might wonder if the Altroz would lose out on its performance and reliability with an aftermarket CNG conversion kit. To answer you folks, we came across the above video on YouTube channel of Car Garh. The car in the video is the range-topping XZ(O) trim of the Altroz. The kit on this Altroz comes from the product range of Lovato, which is a known name around the Indian buyers. The CNG kit has been installed with skilled hands; therefore no shoddy connections can be seen in the engine bay. The CNG cylinder has been mounted in the boot space. It has been done in such a way that the spare tyre continues to sit in its dedicated place and some space is left to put a little luggage in the boot space.

The host claims that the Altroz continues to offer similar performance with CNG as with petrol as fuel. The petrol motor on the Altroz is a 3-pot naturally aspirated motor that is also used on the smaller offerings like Tiago and Tigor. The motor develops an identical peak power output of 86 PS  and max torque of 113 Nm in the Altroz as in the Tiago. However, it gets a secondary balancer shaft in the Altroz to suppress the NVH levels. Talking of the oil burner, it is a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that comes produces max power and torque output of 90 PS and 200 Nm, respectively.
