Here's a Ford EcoSport whose alloy wheels were stolen while it was parked overnight on a street in Delhi
With the lockdown in place, employment opportunities have once again shrunk by a fair margin. This was assumed to give rise to crimes, like robbery, theft, and more. However, we condemn such acts and wishfully pray punishments for such souls. But, recently a new trend of stealing away the alloy wheels of cars has been observed. We earlier reported how thieves took away the wheels of brand spankingly new Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Baleno. This time around, pictures of a Ford EcoSport have started floating on the internet, which is parked on stones, without any wheels. The EcoSport in the pictures belongs to Anirudh Soni, who hails from Hauz Khas, Delhi.
The wheels of his barely-old Ford EcoSport were robbed by thieves, while it was parked outside his place for the night. We understand, how sad it is, waking to such a sight. Before you think, we tell you that thieves generally rob away the alloy wheels of the car and then sell them at dirt-cheap rates in various markets. Sometimes, they often perform this exercise via online selling platforms. Therefore, it is advisable to not buy alloy wheels or other accessories from such a market or shop, which sell spares at super cheap price, and claims that it came from an accidental or totalled car.
Coming back to the remedial measures, that could help you avoid lending in such a situation, there are many. First and foremost is that always park your car at a safe spot. Secondly, one can purchase locking lug nuts for the wheels and install them to avoid losing the alloy wheels of the car.
Also, parking your car super-close to a wall with front wheels steered towards the wall will also be of certain help. The thieves will not be able to unscrew the wheels of the car from the side, which is towards the wall. Since the front wheels are turned towards the wall, the wheel hub of the other side will hide behind the car’s bumper, therefore restricting the spanner to reach the lug nuts. However, one of the car’s wheel will still be at risk. But, that’s better than having all of them at risk of getting stolen.
