Ford EcoSport was the first sub-4-meter car in the Indian market, but its popularity seems to get affected after the introduction of new entrants in the sub-compact SUV space. Right now, in our market, Ford EcoSport is offered with two distinctive engine options- a 1.5-litre, 3-pot petrol motor and a 1.5-litre, 4-pot diesel unit. The former puts out 122 PS of power and 149 Nm of twisting force, while the latter develops power and torque outputs of 100 PS and 215 Nm. The Ford EcoSport offered in our market is in its second generation.

Currently, the automaker is working on the third-gen model of the SUV, which is expected to look completely different compared to the ongoing model, in terms of design. Recent reports suggest that the upcoming all-new Ford EcoSport will be powered by company’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost mild-hybrid turbocharged 3-pot gasoline motor. The same power plant does duties in Ford Fiesta, Puma and Focus. The mild-hybrid system seems like a feasible option, but is it possible for the automaker to of the new-gen model of the car with an electric powertrain. Here’s a recent rendering by Kleber Silva, which shows how the Ford EcoSport EV could look like. The front fascia of the car gets a closed radiator grille that looks similar to the one offered with the Ford Mach-E.

The American carmaker has partnered with Mahindra and has plans to build new cars. Mahindra will build platforms, while Ford will offer power plants. One can expect the upcoming Ford EcoSport to have a lot in common with the Mahindra XUV300. Mahindra also showcased electrified model of XUV300 early this year at the 2020 Auto Expo.
