Internationally, the Ford EcoSport has scored 4-star in European and Latin NCAP crash tests, but the Indian model has never been tested by crash testing body

Ford EcoSport is one of the nicest-handling compact-SUVs in the Indian market. It is often praised for its build quality. A lot of customers have shared the images of their cars, showing post-accidental damages in the past. Fortunately, the passengers could walk out of the vehicles uninjured in most cases. Recently, we came across one similar post on a social media platform, where a Ford EcoSport owner has shared the images of his car after it met with an accident. According to the owner, a Nilgai (Wild cow) jumped on the car, therefore making the driver lose control. As a result, this Ford EcoSport fell off the highway into a ditch.

Luckily, the passengers walked out of the car with no injuries, whatsoever. The owner has mentioned on the social media platform that he is thankful to the EcoSport’s build quality, which eventually saved him and his family. The EcoSport is claimed to have scored a 4-star crash test rating. But, there’s a slight twist in the tale. The EcoSport was awarded a 4-star rating at Euro-NCAP, Latin-NCAP, and NHTSA (USA) crash tests. However, the India-spec car has not been tested by the G-NCAP yet.

It has been observed in the recent past that safety ratings of a product vary according to the market they are sold in. The carmakers often fiddle around with the standard safety equipment list to price their models competitively. Therefore, the prototypes of a product sold in two different countries will behave differently at the testbed. The India-spec Ford EcoSport is offered with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt alarms, and high-speed notifications as standard fitment across the range.

The gearbox options on the petrol trims of the EcoSport include a 5-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. The diesel variants, on the other hand, are available with a 5-speed MT only.
