Recently, the Toyota Fortuner of Gautam Gambhir was seen stuck in a landfill in Delhi. The incident is a clear reminder of why having 4x4 is important if one plans to take his SUV to such complex terrains

Gautam Gambhir is a big name in the world of cricket. He has played a lot of international matches for our country, including the ICC World Cup 2007. However, the cricketer has now turned politician and is a member of Lok Sabha from East Delhi. Unlike other cricketers, Gautam Gambhir owns a rather conventional yet expensive set of wheels. While his taste in automobiles isn't as sophisticated as that of some of the other cricketers, he does own a fleet of well-sorted cars that includes BMW 6-Series GT, Mahindra Bolero, Toyota Fortuner and more. However, Gautam Gambhir’s Toyota Fortuner was recently seen stuck at Gazipur landfill. This incident serves as a clear reminder of why having 4x4 is important in case one plans to take his SUV to such challenging terrains.

No doubt, Toyota Fortuner is one of the most capable SUVs that is on sale in the Indian market. Indeed, it is highly loved for its off-roading capabilities. Sadly, however, the politician owns a 4X2 version of the top-selling SUV. Thus, it got bogged down by the loose terrain of the landfill. To take the car out of the situation, labourers working at the landfill were asked to push it.

Talking of the off-road credentials, Toyota Fortuner boasts of an approach angle of 29 degrees, a departure angle of 25 degrees, and a ramp-over angle of 25 degrees. It also has a water wading depth of 700 mm. However, all of these credentials are not of much use when the Fortuner is not equipped with its robust 4x4 system. It must be noted here that the T-Fort, as it's often called, is a hugely capable off-roader with its 4x4 system engaged in the 4-low mode via its low-range transfer case.

There are 2 transmission options of offer – 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT. However, with the former in place, the peak torque is capped at 420 Nm. Also, a petrol engine is on offer, which misses out on the option of a 4X4 drivetrain. It puts out a rated power and torque output of 166 PS and 245 Nm, respectively.
