Honda City Hybrid To Come To India By Mid-2021

A new hybrid version of the Honda City for Malaysia has been revealed and it is actually the Indian-bound version which is expected to be launched in the country by mid-2021. Known as the i-MMD, this hybrid technology has been adopted for the international-spec Honda CR-V Hybrid and the new Honda Jazz which is sold in foreign countries as well.

Unlike other mild-hybrid technologies in which the petrol motor sends the power to the wheels with the assistance of the electric motors, this is an extremely strong hybrid motor which can run on only electric power alone and utilizes two electric motors combined with an IC petrol motor. The engine is a 1.5-litre 4-cyl naturally aspirated Atkinson Cycle gasoline burner which is good for 98 HP against 127 Nm. The first electric motor is integrated to the petrol motor to act as an integrated-starter­-generator (ISG). The second one alone can deliver 109 HP against 253 Nm, which is directly spread to the front wheels through a bespoke with a single fixed-gear ratio.

The hybrid system will also allow the car to be driven in three driving modes: when the electric motor is used, when the combustion motor is utilized and when both are used. This will help the driver adjust the Honda City ti driving mode, either in the city or on the highway where the petrol motor can kick in to supply a greater power/torque figure.

The new Honda City hybrid will come with powerful hybrid technologies.

As regards the design, the hybrid Honda City bears a strong resemblance to the City RS which is on sale in some foreign markets. The vehicle is equipped with an all-black grille and sporty bumper. An e:HEV badge is mounted to the grille and the boot lid. The City hybrid interior will also come with an all-black paint scheme.

Once the City hybrid is launched in India in 2021, it will be a unique vehicle since no other mid-size sedans at this price range come with such a strong hybrid technology as the City. The Maruti Ciaz, which is the City’s direct competitor, gets a 12V dual-battery mild-hybrid system which helps improve the fuel mileage and some power boost. The Honda City is one of the most extravagant vehicles in its segment and it is expected to be not cheap at all when coming with an additional hybrid system. The Honda City hybrid is anticipated to be priced from around INR 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
