Here’s a speculative rendering of the new Hyundai i20 Active that drops us some hints at how the car might look like. In India, this model will rival the Honda WR-V

Before Hyundai launched the new-gen i20 in the Indian market this month, the South Korean company has discontinued the i20 Active which was basically based on the previous-gen i20 model in February. While there’s no statement on the introduction of the new i20 Active based on the latest-gen version, our in-house digital illustrator has already worked on the rendering of the same. Here’s a speculative rendering of the new Hyundai i20 Active that drops us some hints at how the car might look like.

Based on the all-new Hyundai i20, the rendering of the new i20 Active gets a lot of interesting design changes inspired by the donor model. At the front, the rendered i20 Active gets the same grille size as the earlier car but the design itself has been tweaked a little to add more ruggedness to the vehicle. However, the front bumper of new i20 Active has been thoroughly redesigned and boasts of new black rugged plastic. The bigger triangular fog lamp housing gives the cross-hatch a bolder look and feel while the projector headlamps look as sharp and aggressive as those of the new i20 model. The side profile of the i20 Active has been updated for a sportier look. There’s a new side cladding on the wheel arches and new dual-tone alloy wheels, making it more crossover-ish.

How About a 2020 Hyundai i20 Active to Rival Honda WR-V?

As said earlier, it remains unknown if Hyundai can bring back the new i20 Active. While the previous Hyundai i20 Active was on sale in India for a long time, it was normally aimed at the premium space. Due to a host of visual updates over the years, the price of the Hyundai i20 was higher than the Elite i20 by quite a margin. It is worth noting that the new-gen Hyundai Elite i20 is sitting in the steeper side of the segment, which means the new Hyundai i20 Active, if launched, will command quite a premium of Rs 20,000 – 30,000 more than the i20 sibling. Therefore, it is unlikely that Hyundai would launch the Active version of the new i20 in India.

As for the regular Hyundai i20 hatchback, the all-new car is now on sale at the price ranging from Rs 6.79 – 11.32 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new-gen Hyundai i20 rivals the likes of Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz in the premium hatchback segment. It comes with three engines and four transmission options that aim to attract a wide range of customers in the Indian space.
