Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are mechanically similar to each other. Here's how their base models fare against each other.

Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are mechanical twins to each other. Also, both of these SUVs are one of the best-selling cars of their segment. These Korean SUVs carry near-identical starting prices. While Hyundai Creta is priced at Rs. 9.81 lakh, the starting price of the Kia Seltos is Rs. 9.89 lakh. But, which one should you choose between E trim of Hyundai Creta and HTE variant of Kia Seltos? Here’s a video that we came across on YouTube channel of Arun Panwar, which packs in the answer. In the video, the host can be seen explaining the differences between the base variants of these SUVs.

Starting with the on-road prices first, it is the Hyundai Creta that is cheaper by almost Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 than the Seltos. Moving over to the design, both of these SUVs feature different design languages. The base trims of these cars miss out on LED headlamps. They get halogen projectors, instead. However, it is the Creta that comes with LED DRLs, which Seltos does not offer. Both, Kia Seltos HTE and Hyundai Creta E come shod with 205/65/R16 tyres from Sumho. Also, they ride on a set of steel wheels, since the option of alloy wheels is offered in the top-spec trims only.

The base trims of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are also kept away from roof rails and spoiler. From the inside, it is the base-spec Creta that feels like a stripped-down version of its top-spec counterpart. It does not get infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and a lot of other features. The base trim of the Seltos, on the other hand, comes fitted with a 2-din stereo system, steering mounted audio controls and sunglass holder. On the contrary, the Creta comes with power-adjustable ORVMs and cooled glovebox.

In terms of powertrain options, the entry-level variants of the Creta and Seltos are offered with two engine options – 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel. These engines put out an identical peak power output of 115 PS. The torque output, however, is different on these power plants. The petrol motor churns out 144 Nm, while the oil burner dishes out 250 Nm. The gearbox options on these engines in the base trims include a 6-speed MT only.
