Check out the common features between the World Car Of The Year winner, 2021 Kia Telluride, and the Kia Seltos sold in India.

Kia Telluride, Kia’s flagship SUV in a lot of international markets, has recently won the prestigious WCOTY (World Car Of The Year) award 2020, and there are plenty of reasons why. Its large dimensions offer brilliant interior space, brilliant for countries where roads aren’t congested. Its feature-rich package makes it appealing to people who don’t mind spending top-dollar for the latest technology. Its large, 3.8-litre, V6 petrol engine makes mile-munching effortless. Sadly, such a vehicle is not well suited for India.

India-spec Kia Seltos Shares Many Features With Rs 32 Lakh Kia Telluride

Thankfully, we already have a Kia which is well suited for India, the Kia Seltos. Car buyers have given too warm a welcome to the SUV, quickly making it the best-seller in its segment. Kia is perhaps the only manufacturer who had a near-consistent positive sales growth during the auto market slowdown.

There are plenty of features which are shared between the smaller Kia Seltos and the larger Kia Telluride. Here, we list out all those features, along with some brief details about them.

Ventilated Seats

Indian summers can be brutally hot, reaching upwards of 45o C is most major cities. The front row seats in both, the Telluride and the Seltos, are ventilated. You get small fans and perforated upholstery, thus helping blow cool air onto your back during your leisurely drive.

Electrically-Operated Sunroof

An electrically-operated sunroof is one of the most common premium feature offered nowadays in vehicles. Hyundai has been offering it for quite some time, and so does Kia. The international Telluride and the India-spec Seltos, both offer electrically-operated sunroof. The Telluride, however, goes a step further and adds voice-control to the sunroof, which is absent on the Seltos, at least at the moment.

Wireless Charging

If you have a smartphone that supports wireless charging, then Kia has another brilliant feature for you. The Telluride, as well as the Seltos, offer wireless charging pads integrated into the cubby space under the centre-console. This makes charging your phone an easy affair, and the lack of unnecessary charging cables also helps undue mess in check.

UVO Connected Car Technology

The latest trend in the automobile market is the offering of connected car technology, which synchronises your vehicle with your smartphone. You can check on your car, check its performance, get notifications about your schedule, service intervals, and even get various voice-activated commands. Kia offers UVO connected car tech on both the cars, although the Telluride gets understandably more features.

Blind-Spot Monitoring

Safety has also become a paramount concern recently, especially in India. Although basic safety features like ABS, stability control, airbags, etc., are quite common these days, premium features are still quite rare. One such feature is blind-spot monitoring. The system uses sensors to recognise vehicles that are driving close and parallel to your car, in such a manner that they might not be visible in your ORVMs. The system then flashes lights, thus warning the driver. The flagship Kia gets it, as well the smaller Seltos.

Hill-Climb Assist

Driving uphill is a task, especially if you encounter a stop-start situation. Rolling backwards downhill is quite scary, and slightly dangerous as well, especially if there is traffic following. Thankfully, there are driving assists in modern vehicles to help you out. In the Kia Telluride, the Hill assist system senses the elevation of the road, and keeps the brake applied for an additional two seconds even after you remove your foot from the pedal. This feature is also available in the Seltos (automatic models only)

Tyre-Pressure Monitoring

Tyre pressure is one of the most neglected aspects of our vehicles, as owners usually only check the pressure when something feels wrong, like when the balance is off or if there is a puncture. Punctual tyre pressure monitoring can not only improve fuel economy, but also help improve driving dynamics of the car. Thankfully, there are automated systems to do that nowadays. The Kia telluride and the Kia Seltos, both have this system available on board.

Currently, Kia has no plans to introduce the Telluride to India, but it would be interesting to see the SUV on Indian roads. With 5,000mm of metal, leather, and plastic between the nose and the tail, the Telluride stands at the border of mid-size and full-size SUV categories. It is significantly larger than its competitors- Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Mahindra Alturas G4. The top-trim Kia Telluride is available in the US for $ 42,960, which is roughly equivalent to Rs. 32 Lakh.
