Mercedes-Benz G-63 AMG and Jeep Wrangler are big-bulky-expensive SUVs. Can a Suzuki Jimny outperform them on an offroad track?

In case of SUVs, the bigger is considered better. However, it isn't so when an SUV is used at its full potential in the wild, as smaller SUVs are easier to manoeuvre. Here’s a video to add up as proof to this saying of ours. The video was uploaded on YouTube on the channel of CarWow. In the video, the presenter is comparing three of the most renowned 4x4 SUVs on an off-road course. The three SUVs compared in the video are Mercedes-Benz G-63 AMG, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and Suzuki Jimny Sierra. Before you think, we tell you, all of these cars are in bone-stock condition. The tyres are the factory-spec as well.

In the video, the first obstacle of the course is a slippery-uphill incline. All the three SUVs start together, but the G-63 reaches the top first, followed by the Suzuki Jimny and then the Jeep Wrangler. Moving on to the seconds obstacle - axle twister. Here, all the cars perform with similar timings; however, the G-63 AMG had to attempt it with extra care due to the side-mounted exhausts. Next obstacle these cars take on is a set of banked section. On this path, the Wrangler was the one which excelled with no hiccups at all. G-63 AMG also did quite well, but the Jimny with its light-weight was bouncing around a lot and building the fear of a tip-over.

Now the most important obstacles of the whole video is a track, where every car had to go through a muck-filled trench, take a U-Turn around a tree and return to the same position from the other way. This challenge depicted the real scenario that off-roaders face while traversing through the woods, where the roads are mostly narrow. The Jimny takes on this one with ease, due to its compact dimensions. The Wrangler is the next to finish this task, followed by the G-63 AMG. After this course, the cars start going down the hill, which they started with. It appears, that the Jimny is not all that good an SUV while attempting a downward slope. The last obstacle in the video is an uphill incline with a loose surface. It can be seen that it is the Jeep Wrangler that fails here.

The video showcases the offroad prowess of the three SUVs, but it is the Jimny that turned out to be a jack of all ttrades.

Talking of the specs and prices, the G-63 AMG costs Rs. 2.19 Crore and boasts of a power output of 585 horsepower. The Wrangler in Indian costs Rs. 68.94 lakhs and has a 268 HP powerplant under its hood. The Jimny, however, is not on sale in India but is all set for a launch, later this year. It will feature the same 102 HP motor as on the UK-spec car. It would cost less than Rs. 15.00 lakh. Therefore, it is evident that Jimny is super capable and affordable 4X4 SUV currently on sale in the world. It comes with solid axles at front and rear, and Suzuki’s intelligent braking system. This system can brake each wheel independently to send the power to the wheel that has got the maximum traction. Hence the conclusion is, smaller and cheap can be capable as well.
