Ford Ecosport is one of the best handling SUVs on sale in the country, but looks like the owner of this one felt the need for better stability and quicker steering response

Ford is known for selling some of the best-handling cars in the country. From the small Figo to the mammoth Endeavour, all Ford cars are very responsive to the driver’s input. The most-selling car of the manufacturer - EcoSport - is often referred to as the best-handling car of its segment by the critics. It is an enthusiastic's delight even in its stock form and hence, coming across a souped-up example is something that doesn't happen very often. However, recently, we came across one and here are all its details.

The 17-inch rims from the Ecosport S edition look gorgeous.

This particular example of modified Ford EcoSport is based on the pre-facelift version and it features 17-inch alloy wheels from the Ecosport S edition. Apart from the wheels, the owner has not changed anything on the outside. However, the car has lost a little of its height as it now uses Eibach’s Pro-Kit lowering springs. The springs are designed to aid the car with a tighter grip on the road and around corners with reduced body roll. Other performance mods on this Ecosport include a Rock-it exhaust muffler from Borla, K&N air filter, and aftermarket brake pads from Dixcel. This Ecosport sources power from a 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol engine. According to the car’s owner, Arjun Shubrah, it is India’s only lowered Ford Ecosport.

Apart from these performance mods, the car also features a capable music system setup. It comprises of R62 Limited components from Mercury, coaxials from Vextron, DD Audio super tweeters and four-channel amplifier, 2 Sundown Audio LCS subwoofers, Rockford Fosgate monoblock amp, and Pioneer DEQ-S1000A digital sound processor. To further accentuate the whole experience of the aural bliss, the car has been damped using CTK dampening sheets. Also, the wiring harness has been upgraded to one from Shok Industries. The headlamps on this Ecosport are upgraded with Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0 LED bulbs, while the foglamps now feature a 50W FE Retrofit Projector Kit.

The car has been lowered with Eibach spring.

Currently, the Ecosport is available with 2 engine options – 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel. The former is a 3-pot motor and puts out a peak power output of 123 PS and max. torque of 150 Nm. It can be had mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. The oil burner, on the other hand, puts out a rated power and torque output of 100 PS and 205 Nm, respectively. It is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission only. For an automatic transmission, one would have to opt for the petrol motor. Also, the Ecosport is expected to get a new turbo-petrol engine soon. It will be borrowed from Mahindra’s mStallioin series of engines. With 1200 cubic centimetres of displacement, the motor would whip out a healthy power figure of 130 horsepower and segment-leading torque output of 230 Nm. Expect, the new motor to debut on the Mahindra XUV300 first, before making its way to the Ecosport.
