The Maruti Baleno is undeniably a redoubtable rival to the likes of Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz in the premium hatch segment. In fact, the Maruti Baleno is presently the largest-selling B2-segment hatchback with an average monthly volume of 17,439 units. The new Maruti Baleno is available with three engines, comprising one diesel and two petrol units. The diesel-powered Baleno uses a 75 HP 1.3-litre burner that is coupled with a 5-speed MT as standard. Whereas the Baleno petrol version deploys an 83 HP 1.2-litre K12B engine mated to a CVT option, alongside a 90 HP 1.2-litre K12C DualJet motor that gets the support of a mild-hybrid system.

Maruti Suzuki has authorised its Nexa dealers to offer the new Baleno with discounts of Rs 25,000, which encompasses an exchange bonus along with a corporate discount of Rs 5,000. However, the pre-facelift petrol version of the Baleno is even offered with a higher discount of up to Rs 45,000.

Despite having an impressive crossover-ish silhouette and a peppy engine, the Maruti Ignis still fails to gain traction among buyers of the hatchback segment. Currently, the Maruti Ignis is drawing the power from an 83 HP 1.2-litre petrol engine that gets the benefit from either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission. This July, Maruti Nexa dealers are offering huge discounts of up to Rs 55,000 across all the Ignis variants.

Note that Maruti Suzuki is yet to upgrade the Ignis’s 1.2-litre petrol engine to the BSVI compliance. The same goes for some other Maruti models, namely the Maruti Swift, Baleno, WagonR and Dzire which are powered by the same motor option.
