The Hyundai Creta has been the top of its segment sales charts ever since its launch. Today we have this first generation Creta having a drag race against a new Kia Seltos.

The Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos are currently the highest selling mid-size SUVs in the Indian market. The Seltos was launched in 2019 and has become a favourite among buyers. The Creta in the other hand has been the segment leader for a while now and last year the second-generation model was launched, which quickly became the highest-selling vehicle in the class. Today we came across this video which pits a Kia Seltos against a first-generation Hyundai Creta in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by Arun Panwar on YouTube, and we can see a Kia Seltos and an old Hyundai Creta readying for a drag race. The Seltos in the video is a 1.5-litre diesel model while the Creta comes with the older 1.4-litre diesel while both SUVs are paired with a manual. The drag race will have 4 rounds to give both the vehicles a fair shot. The first round sees the Seltos taking the lead which it never ceded. The second round results were the same as the first, the Seltos getting into a lead and winning. The third and fourth round was also the same, with the Creta not winning a single round.

The main reason the Kia Seltos won overwhelmingly was the power difference in both the vehicles. The Seltos’ 1.5-litre diesel engine churns out 115 PS/250 Nm of peak power and torque while the Hyundai Creta’s 1.4-litre diesel makes peak power and torque of 90 PS/220. Both the vehicles also are similar in weight, which makes the power difference even more evident between the vehicles.

The second-generation Hyundai Creta does get this very 1.5-litre diesel engine in its lineup, and if it were raced the results would have been closer. Both the Creta and the Kia Seltos also get petrol engines in its lineup with the flagship being a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol which churns out 140 PS/243 Nm of peak power and torque and is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The 2020 Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 9.81 – Rs 17.31 lakh while prices for the Kia Seltos range between Rs 9.89 – Rs 17.45 lakh, ex-showroom.
