Kia Seltos Vs MG Hector Caught Standing Side By Side – Which one looks better?

While the lower variants of Kia Seltos will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, its higher trims will become arch-rival to the recently-launched MG Hector.

Earlier this year, MG Motor first stepped into the Indian market with its first-ever vehicle, MG Hector. Whereas, the Kia Seltos is getting ready to go on sale in India on August 22, 2019, marking the first entry of the South Korean brand, Kia Motor in the country. While the MG Hector has successfully garnered quite a huge band of fan-followers in the domestic space, the Kia Seltos, albeit not launched yet, has become quite popular in India for quite some time.

Actually, the new Kia car has received over 23,000 bookings ahead of its launch on 22nd August. Recently, the Kia Seltos has been caught standing side by side with the MG Hector, giving us an idea of how they compare with each other in terms of exterior design.

Though both the Kia Seltos and MG Hector are sharing the same 5-seater layout, the Seltos is still a smaller car as compared to the MG’s model. In fact, the MG Hector is the longest model in the segment and it gets a greater road presence compared with other SUVs, including the Kia Seltos. The recently-launched Hector measures 4,665 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height while those of the soon-to-be-launched Seltos sit at 4,315 mm, 1,800 mm, 1,620 mm, respectively. The MG Hector offers a ground clearance of 192 mm while the Seltos gets 190 mm.

However, when talking about the styling design of these vehicles, the two SUVs seem to have an equal impact. Both the MG and Kia cars have a very aggressive look at the front. While the MG Hector carries forward the all-original design from its donor model, the Chinese-spec Baojun 530. It has a sharp bold front fascia by the huge honeycomb blacked-out grille, squared-off LED fog lamps. The big SUV looks pretty chunky with the muscular bonnet, faux skid plate and prominent lower grille.

The Kia Seltos, on the other hands, looks a bit sleeker yet sportier with Kia’s iconic tiger-nose 3D-effect front grille, well-sculpted two-tier LED headlamps, ice cube-shaped LED fog lamps, faux skid plates and gaping lower air intake, etc. That is to say, the South Korean SUV looks more appealing to young car buyers and bachelors while the Hector, will more likely to fit well with large families. The Kia Seltos, on the other hand, comes up with UVO connected car tech that also boasts as many as 37 smart connected features spreading across 5 categories: remote control, navigation, convenience and vehicle management, safety and security.

Though the Kia Seltos’s launch is still a week away, we know that Kia will introduce three engine options under the Seltos’s bonnet. It will be the first car to offer three different automatic gearboxes on its package. Powering the car will be a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor unit. Meanwhile, the MG Hector is currently offered with one petrol and one diesel option, including a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mill available with an optional smart hybrid tech as well as a 2.0-litre diesel unit. The Kia Seltos is expected to get a price tag of around Rs 10.5 Lakh mark (estimated, ex-showroom) while the MG Hector is carrying a price of around Rs 12.18 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
