Kia Sonet might also get an electric powertrain soon to rival the Tata Nexon EV. However, there's not much known about the powertrain, here's how the car would look like. Take a look at this neat rendering.

Kia Sonet is making it quite frequently to the news headlines these days. The South-Korean carmaker seems to have cracked the formula right enough to strike the chord of prospective buyer’s heart with the design. The Sonet is expected to go on sale by next month to rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza and more. However, with the increasing hype for the agenda of switching over to electricity as fuel, an electrified version of the Sonet is also expected to make its way to the Indian car market. Considering the fact - Sonet borrows its underpinnings from the Hyundai Venue, which will be getting an electric powertrain soon, Sonet EV’s debut sounds legit. But, how would it look like? Don’t worry, as our in-house rendering specialist – Shoeb R. Kalania has created a digital rendering of the Sonet EV.

It can be seen in the pictures, that Sonet EV takes inspiration from the Niro EV that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. It retains its design but features a few changes to match up the design cues of other electrified Kia cars. To start with, it gets different design for the wheels, while the tyres feature thicker sidewalls. These changes help in low-rolling resistance and lesser aerodynamic drag. The other changes include electric-blue highlight on the side cladding, scuff plate, and wheel hubs. The front radiator grille has been changed with a new unit that now houses the charging port. Furthermore, the grille now ditches the stepwell-inspired pattern for electric-blue lines that resembles a PCB.

Talking of powertrain, there aren’t enough details of battery and motor available as of now. It would most likely do with the same powertrain that Hyundai is planning to plonk in the Venue EV, which again the Korean carmaker is tight-lipped about. Most likely, it will be a high-voltage setup with a battery capacity in the range of 30 kWh. The driving range would be over 300 kilometres to put the Sonet EV as a direct rival to the Nexon EV. For the pricing, it again goes as a blind-spot, but Sonet EV would follow the same suite as Venue EV.
