Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue are mechanical twins like their respective elder siblings, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Thus, where they differ from each other is the design. How much? We tell you.

Kia Sonet has been recently unveiled to the world. It is South Korean carmaker’s shot in the highly competitive sub-4m compact-SUV space. It is certainly an all-new car inside-out, but it borrows its underpinnings and powertrain options from the Hyundai Venue. That being said, the Sonet and Venue sport distinctive designs and none can make out the fact that they share the same underpinnings simply by looking at the two models. But, how different are they and which one looks better? Let’s find it out here -

Well, the comparison between the design of the Sonet and Venue should start with the dimensions. However, the catch here is that Kia hasn’t revealed the measurements of the Sonet yet. All that is known as of now is that Sonet will not be longer than the 4-meter mark. The Venue, on the other hand, is 3,995 mm long, 1,590 mm tall, and 1,790 mm wide. It boasts of an adequate road presence for a car of this size. That said, the Sonet is expected to feature increased street presence.

Talking of the front facets of these cars, the Sonet and Venue follow different design philosophies. The Sonet gets a high-set bonnet above the tiger-nose grille, which is flanked by sharp-looking headlamps on either side. They get Heartbeat LED DRLs as well. The Venue, however, follows a contemporary design theme with vertically-split headlamps with a massive cascading grille placed in between them. Also, the Sonet’s headlamp unit features LED lighting elements, whereas the Venue does with the halogen projector setup.

Moving over to the sides, the Sonet look the beefier one here. It appears to be a bit taller than the Venue. Also, it gets more curves and haunches than the Venue. However, the wheels on the Venue are better-looking units than those on the Sonet. While the overall stance of the Venue is quite upright, the Sonet gets raked A-pillar and reverse-inclined C-pillar. With the latter in place, Kia designers managed to fit in a quarter glass in the C-pillar, which isn’t the case with the Venue.

On the rear, the Venue looks conservative. It gets a set of squared-off tail lamps with crystal-effect for the LED elements. They look gorgeous when glared closely. The Sonet, however, look flashier from the rear-end. It gets a set of sleek tail lamps that are connected to each other via reflector strip. Also, the bumper and the rear lip of Sonet look sharper than that seen on the venue.

Talking of the interior, the Hyundai Venue gets a well laid-out dashboard with nothing fancy to talk of. However, it houses all that is needed in a car of this price. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, chunky climate control knobs, big AC vents and more. The Sonet, on the contrary, has opted for a flamboyant approach. The dashboard is upright with big rectangular AC vents, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, chunky steering wheel, and an all-digital instrument cluster. Overall, it can be said that the Venue pleases the eyes looking for an understated design, while the Sonet is for those who love everything flashy.
