Sadly, the slowdown in the Indian auto market has been troublesome for the company. Thankfully, a new generation model is on its way, and will hopefully be launched by the end of this year. Till then, Mahindra is offering some brilliant discount and deals on the current-generation Scorpio.

The Mahindra Scorpio is currently powered by a 2.2-litre, turbocharged, inline-4, ‘mHawk’ diesel engine. This motor is capable of generating 140 PS and 320 Nm. This motor might get retuned to offer a slightly higher peak power and torque figures, probably the same as XUV500 (155 PS and 360 Nm). Apart from that, there might be a new entry-level petrol motor added to the line-up. Our guess would be the 1.5-litre, turbocharged, inline-4, ‘mStallion’ petrol powerplant, which was showcased earlier at the 2020 Auto Expo. This turbo-petrol mill can produce 165 PS and 280 Nm. At the moment, transmission options only include a 6-speed manual. A 6-speed torque converter automatic will also be available soon.

In other news, the next-generation Mahindra Thar is also slated for a launch soon. To is expected to be underpinned by the same new platform as the next-gen Scorpio. The new body-on-frame chassis will be stiffer than before. Even the engine options are expected to be the same- a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. These, however, are only speculations. We’re still waiting on an official confirmation by the manufacturer regarding this.
