Here, we have a tale of a man who sold his prized possession, a 2011 Ford Endeavour, in order to provide oxygen tanks to COVID patients for free.

While the lockdown all over the country is slowly being lifted, the pandemic situation still hasn’t improved a lot. Plenty of cases are popping up every day, and thousands of lives have been lost. Thankfully, there are people who are extending a helping hand towards others. Here, we have a story of two people who have been lending free oxygen tanks to COVID patients.

Man sells Ford Endeavour to buy and distribute free oxygen tanks

The man, Shahnawaz Hussain, and his business partner, Abbas Rizvi, have been providing free oxygen cylinders to the family of COVID patients. Both men are citizens of Mumbai. Abbas had recently lost his cousin to COVID-19. She was six months pregnant at the time, she and her husband had visited five different hospitals, all of which had refused to admit her. She took her last breath in an auto-rickshaw outside a hospital. Later, doctors told them that her life could have been saved if she would have had access to a ventilator or an oxygen tank on time. Upon learning the story from Abbas, Shahnawaz decided that they should help other COVID patients so that a similar tragedy may not befall them.

To fund his campaign for free oxygen cylinders, Shahnawaz sold his Ford Endeavour for an undisclosed amount. Till date, the duo has been able to supply around 250 to 300 cylinders to worried families in need. The oxygen tanks are given for a period of 48 hours, after which they are returned, sanitized, and refilled. The service isn’t limited to just COVID-19 patients. They are also providing free oxygen cylinder to asthma and other breathing ailments.

With the help of plenty of other volunteers, they have been able to provide 10 to 15 cylinders a day. All they ask for is a doctor’s recommendation and for the family to pick-up the tank from them. In case someone is unable to come and pick the cylinder for themselves, volunteers are sent to deliver it outside their homes.

Shahnawaz has also made a video, along with a Dr. Sabauddin Shaikh, on how to use oxygen cylinders. He has stated that although he cannot provide proper hospitals for patients, he can certainly help with such small but effective measures. Prior to selling the Endeavour, he had been using his SUV as a volunteer ambulance.
